The workshop was held in HUE city on November 3rd, 2010 with the participation of the Vice -Minister of the Ministry of Health and other important officials from the MCH Department and Science & Training Department of the Ministry of Health . There were all members of the Executive Committee attending the workshop. ICM assigned Ms. Sylvia Fung to the workshop . The presentation of Ms. Phan Thi Hanh, VAM President , focused on the activities of VAM since the establishment and the need to establish VAM CME Center . Ms. Sylvia Fung also shared with the participants her experiences on the CME in Honkong and the need to establish a CME Center for midwives . Following the presentation of Phan thi Hanh and Sylvia Fung, the Vice Minister of MOH emphasized the key role of the midwives in the reduction of the Maternal and infant mortality . He said that the maternal mortality in the remote and isolated areas in Vietnam is still high due to lack of midwives and the midwives working in the remote areas hadn’t had chances to update and improve their knowledge and skill . The establishment of a CME Center which belongs to VAM is necessary because more than anyone, VAM understand what their members need . The representatives of the MCH Department and Science and Training Department also agreed that the midwives take a very important role in the primary health care and MCH and FP program and they said that they would support the association to establish the CME Center .

Mr. Nguyen trong Hau, representative of Atlantic Philanthropies, were impressed on what VAM had done for the community . Dr. Ton Van Der Veldel, Representative of Pathfinder International Vietnam, said that VAM was one of the associations which had implemented the project successfully and he fully supported VAM to establish the CME Center of its own .
With the support from the Ministry of Health, especially the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Health, Vietnamese Association of Midwives decided to prepare the necessay documents to submit to the MOH within this year to establish the CME Center .
